culture #5: Are Band-Aids Racist???

23 Feb

In our culture, racism has probably existed since life has been around.  But are we starting to experience racism through products as simple as a Band-aid??? They say band-aids are designed for flesh toned (nude), but its not really nude tones of black or white, so who’s skin tone are they referring too?  Well no worries, after a few comments and concerns, band-aids now come in a variety of colors that suite almost any skin-tone.  And if your still not satisfied wear a clear one or just don’t wear one at all. SIMPLE!

culture #4: Tattoo

23 Feb

For many years, tattoos have been a popular trend in our culture. The designs, scriptures, and artwork never ceases to amaze me.  And in todays society, people are becoming more riskier about what they get and where they get it.  I first decided to head to Lucky 13 to get a tattoo of a band-aid (but once I realized how stupid that would be) I just decided to Google band-aid tattoos to see if any results would come and to my surprise, a few came up…this was just the best one…

Twitter is one of the newest rising social media’s in todays society where you can catch up on the latest gossip and see what friends, family, and celebrities are tweeting about. Trending topics are also a popular thing to do on twitter. It’s when you update a status pertaining a particular topic such as #bandaids (and you can’t forget the “#” symbol). Here are a few tweets I found pertaining to band-aids…

culture #2: Youtube

22 Feb

Another popular media in our culture is Youtube; a place to discover, watch, upload and share videos. You can almost find videos on almost anything, like…band-aids.  My favorite kind of commercials to watch on t.v. are the “As Seen on T.V.” ads. Mostly because  the majority them are just plain ridiculous and also because some products really are helpful.  I also enjoy how dramatic the scenes are before the the person uses the product then all of a sudden it instantly solves the problem. While on Youtube, I ran across this video that reminded me of one of those commercials…

Since Facebook is so popular in today’s culture, one of the popular things to do on there is create images using symbols.  There’s really no purpose in doing it, its just a fun & creative way to waste time, and the possibilities are almost endless. Here are a few of my favorite ones…

passion #3: This is Why I Don’t Wear my Heart on my Sleeve…

16 Feb

I spend a lot of time on photo-editing, not because im bored, but I love the many possibilities of morphing a simple picture into something completely different. This was a simple picture of a band-aid and an honor of Valentines Day, I was able to project a strong, symbolic message instead.  T his actually came out pretty good, it almost looks like something on a graphic T-shirt.

passion #2: Chewing Bandages

16 Feb

Like most people, I LOVE LOVE LOVE to eat food! Now I’m not a pig or anything but my “Couriousness” allows me to try different things that people normally wouldn’t do.  Now unless I had some strange addiction, I’m probable the first person to chew on a Band-aid (of course checking the warning labels first). I chewed it for about 3minutes and actually was quite surprised about the taste I acquired…It wasn’t bad. It tasted like paper with a strip of cotton. I probably won’t ever do this again, but for the sake of this project…what the hell…
